The automated call system continues; it may ask you to press a key again. On Windows, you probably use Ctrl all the time for shortcuts. On macOS, that role is mostly taken over by Command (⌘) — which is mapped to the Alt key on your Windows keyboard (once remapped). My Mac is stuck on a version of the “ABC – India” input source where the tilde/backtick key (`/~) is mapped to the Rupee symbol (₹).

On mine the delete key has a left-pointing arrow. The keypad works in different ways, depending on your Mac and the keyboard, and app you’re using. Well, well, on this occasion I found that Danish keylayout requires shift-alt-7 for backslash. I activated Danish and found that, as always, specific chars are on the right side of the keylayout, this is valid for many European languages, if not all. As that part of the keylayout is occupied by specific chars, backslash must be moved to a higher level.
Forgot Apple Recovery Key for Reset
Normally hitting Delete on a Mac will work as a Backspace key. To Forward Delete, normal action of the Delete key on a PC, you have to hold down the fn key and then hit the Delete key. As in Windows the delete key actually deletes whatever is selected all the time. Your old Recovery Key won’t work anymore and you can’t use it to reset your password or access your account. The image was more to show where the key was more than actually being an British keyboard but I do see your point though.I am just sharing what worked for me on a VM machine.
That said, I’m still using a generic (non-Apple) keyboard for now. I do plan to upgrade to an official Mac keyboard and mouse soon, but in the meantime, I wanted to share how I made my current setup work surprisingly well with macOS. By overriding the key’s primary function, Apple presumes that users have no need for the backtick (`) or tilde (~).
How to type a backlash on Mac
The most critical error is the disconnect between the physical keycap (` or ~) and the character output (₹). Users rely on the principle of “What You See Is What You Get.” A user will never guess that a non-currency key now types a currency symbol. This is a direct violation of the design contract between the device and the user. The location depends on the keylayout you use, on U.S. keyboards they are on the right side at level zero. You can also add additional Forest Arrow trusted phone numbers. As long as you still have your Recovery Key and remember your Apple ID password, you can sign in and add a new trusted device or phone number to your account. You can also remove any devices you may have lost, sold, or given away. As long as you remember your Apple ID password and still have access to one of your trusted devices, you can sign in and create a new Recovery Key. Click Didn’t Get a Code on the sign in screen and choose to send a code to your trusted phone number.
